'Doctor Heli' takes to the air
For Immediate Release – October 31, 1999
for photos, click hereOn September 14th, demonstration and crew training flights began for 'Doctor Heli', Japan's first air medical
helicopter program. The MD-902 Explorer helicopter is fitted with a medical interior system manufactured and installed by Air Methods of Denver Colorado under a contract won by TRACE Worldwide Corporation. TRACE is the exclusive
marketing representative for Air Methods in Japan, as well as selected countries within Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union. The 'Doctor Heli' aircraft was provided by MD helicopter distributor Tomen
Aerospace Corp. It features Air Methods' patented Articulated Patient Loading System (APLS) which weighs only 27 kg and permits 'below waist' loading outside the aircraft. Excellent patient access and shock / anti-shock capability
make for best possible patient care. The compact Modular Medical Cabinet (MMC) provides a single location for all the medical systems needed to administer critical care treatment to two patients, while the Multifunctional Floor
(MFF) preserves aircraft utility and value while providing unparalleled multi-mission flexibility. These innovative configurations provide a sophisticated emergency medical interior system that quickly transitions the
aircraft to different configurations, setting the standard for interior systems. Under a program devised by the Japanese Ministry of Health & Welfare (MOHW), the 'Doctor Heli' service will be provided in turn to the
University Hospital in Kanagawa and the Kawasaki Medical School. Three helicopter operators will be stationed at the hospitals. MOHW has submitted a request to the Japanese Ministry of Finance for a budget approaching $2M
to fund the 'Doctor Heli' program from April 2000 through March 2001. It is expected that the funding will be secured and the program continued in the financial year 2000. TRACE Worldwide President/CEO, John Douglass,
said, "We are experiencing growing global demand for Air Methods' range of medical interiors and systems for both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. TRACE Aircraft Completions, based at London's Biggin Hill Airport, will be
acting as one of the specialist completion centers for the installation and support of the Air Methods Products Division's range. This will enable us to build on the substantial skill and experience we possess in installing
quick-change VIP interior kits for corporate and commercial aircraft." For more information contact: Scott Marvel - TRACE Worldwide Corporation Michael G Prieto – Vice President |
